Member’s Journey: Jerry Trombley – Move to Improve

What better way than to hear a story of someone’s journey then from the person themself.

My Incredible Journey

I retired in March of 2022 at 63 as I was unable to climb stairs or walk the dogs without a rest. I felt terrible.

Go forward to June of 2023 – Donna (my <3) suggested joining the Mon Valley YMCA, saying that the pool would allow more movement. As a kid, I swam all day every day. Now, I wasn’t able to swim a length, and it was humbling. We agreed to go once a week for 40 minutes. I was discouraged due to the lack of my abilities. By the 4th week, I saw improvements and gained the desire to go to the Y until it grew to 3-4 times a week for somewhere around 2 hours. I was self-aware and goal oriented. Sometime around 6 months, my routine was more about listening to my body of how I swam, what stroke as well as pace and time. Then my improvements quickened. I used the pool and hot tub and after 2 years, the steam room. Most recently, as of a few months ago, I added using a few machines to help my core. Everything I’ve done after the 6-month time frame were activities that helped me feel better, never a workout.

So, in less than 3 years, here are just some of my successes:

  1. Normal blood pressure
  2. Cholesterol level normal – ratios improving
  3. Numerous medications no longer needed
  4. Neuropathy gone
  5. Joint pain – 90% gone
  6. Flexibility greatly improved – close to what I felt in my 30s, and I’m 68!
  7. Lost 100lbs and my waist is down 17 inches
  8. Able to walk my dogs 3 miles

AGING IS THE PURSUIT OF COMFORT. So, find something you enjoy and move – listen to your body!
