Mon Valley YMCA Spotlight!
Please allow us to introduce Coach Reginald H. James Jr., M.Ed., basketball coach & mentor.
Coach Reggie currently serves as a program supervisor at the Outside In School of Experiential Education in Bolivar, Pa, while working on his doctorate in Education.
Coach Reggie credits his passion and ability to coach and develop youth basketball to leading to his career working in education and the juvenile justice system. He began his coaching career in 2008 as a volunteer coach in the Inglewood, California Parks and Recreation Basketball leagues working with ages 5-7 years, including his daughter. By the time she was 8 years old, Reggie realized that his ability to coach would go beyond a volunteer basis.
By 2012, Coach Reggie began coaching girls’ high school basketball while also coaching in the world of AAU sports. Traveling the country and winning championships would be only part of the benefits of the many hours he spent studying the game of basketball. His goal to help his daughter fulfill her dream of playing college basketball paid off and she is currently in her senior year at the University of Pacific, setting her sights on playing pro basketball.
Today, Coach Reggie works with young basketball players, ages 8-15, at the Mon Valley YMCA. He believes his greatest strength in terms of coaching lies with his focus on fundamentals and developing strong game skills.
Coach Reggie’s basketball clinics at the Mon Valley YMCA are on-going throughout the year, with the next 6 week session beginning on Sunday, January 12, 2025.
