Melanie has been a member of our Y for 6 years. With the help of our Balanced Body and Zumba classes, Melanie has lost over 20lbs and gained control of her health!

My name is Melanie Scrip and I’m 53 years old. I have always tried to incorporate exercising into my life; however, working the night shift as a registered nurse for the past 22 years has created difficulty in finding the extra time to workout.
Six years ago, my husband and I took a well needed vacation to Florida. We visited the resort pool frequently since it was just steps away from our room. During this trip we developed a great love for swimming. We didn’t want to give up our new favorite activity once we returned home, so we decided to join the YMCA.
When I first joined the Y, I started working out in the Wellness Center, using the cardio machines and weights. After a while, I felt I needed more of a challenge. I decided to signed up for my first fitness class, Beginner Zumba. (This is when my Zumba obsession began!) Since taking my first class, I have participated in Zumba, Zumba Strength, Aqua Zumba, Strut, Ballet Burn, and TBT. I also recently started taking water fitness classes,. After all, that’s why I had originally joined joined the Y.
With a change in my diet and a consistent class workout schedule, I started seeing the weight shed off. The Y offers amazing classes. Each class I take keeps me motivated and helps me stay on the path to good health.
Since joining the YMCA I have gained many new acquaintances and proud to say I have lost more than 20 pounds.
